Tai Chi

Tai chi is an ‘internal’ martial art that grounds our awareness and relaxation in the body. Tai chi requires accuracy of physical movement with an active intention to relax habitual and deeply held physical tensions – ‘the soft overcoming the hard’.


Benefits of Tai Chi
The only way to experience the benefits of Tai Chi is to practice: this strengthens and harmonises body, organs and constitution and relaxes the mind and body. Tai Chi has been proven to lower blood pressure, improve balance, coordination and physical confidence, flexibility of joints, and has cardio-vascular benefits. Tai Chi stimulates physical awareness and, in time, becomes a vehicle for self-discovery.

We practice the Yang style of Tai Chi in the context of training as a gentle and effective form of exercise, a meditative process and a martial art.

 

These classes explore the essential principles of benefit for all styles of tai chi through traditional training methods in awareness and loosening exercises, tai chi form (37 Step Yang Short Form) and partner work in the Huang Sheng-Shyan tradition.

 

The Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium's classes in Bethnal Green, East London offer opportunities for introduction and deepening into the principles and practice of Tai Chi. At these classes the Yang Short Form is introduced and refined, simple exercises are used that help promote the understanding of the principles of Tai Chi and partner work provides a context to understand the principles and practice in relationship to the dynamic situation of working with another person.
